AI & Automation Opportunity Review

Find the best AI and automation opportunities in your business.

CoveOps identifies where work could be removed, accelerated or improved using better workflows, existing systems, automation and AI. You receive a prioritised opportunity register, three outline business cases and a clear 90-day action plan.

From £1,950 • Scope agreed upfront • Remote

Not yet sure whether the issue is AI, automation, the current systems or the workflow itself? Start with a Biz Ops Deep Dive rather than assuming technology is the answer.

The Problem

Interested in AI, but unclear where it will genuinely help?

Many SMEs can see the potential but lack a reliable way to choose the right opportunities. Teams experiment with tools, suppliers begin with their own software, and potential savings get asserted without anyone understanding the work, systems, data or people involved.

  • Repetitive administration that eats into people's time
  • The same information copied, checked or entered more than once
  • Slow responses to customers while information gets chased down
  • Fragmented tools that don't talk to each other
  • No clear business case for what to do about any of it
What It Is

A business review first. A technology recommendation second.

I examine how work gets done, where time and value are lost, and what would have to be true for an improvement to work. Some recommendations may use AI; others may use straightforward automation, an existing system you already own, or a simpler workflow.

It is not a training course, a software pitch or a technology audit.

What Happens

One structured review. Five stages.

  1. Prepare

A short opening session confirms outcomes, scope, language and access, alongside a review of the materials you can reasonably share.

  2. Understand

Up to five 45-minute interviews with the people who do the work, covering real examples, systems, data and constraints, not just leadership opinion.

  3. Identify

I map friction across the business and generate opportunity hypotheses across the workflow, systems, data and people involved, each tied to evidence.

  4. Prioritise

Every opportunity is scored against benefit, strategic relevance, feasibility, readiness and risk, then weighed against the outcomes you've ranked as a business.

  5. Recommend

The strongest three are developed into outline business cases with a 90-day action plan, and walked through in a results session with your leadership.

What You Receive

One structured report, built to answer real decisions.

  • An executive summary and current-state observations: the evidence base behind every recommendation.
  • A full opportunity register, showing where the strongest opportunities actually are.
  • A benefit-versus-effort view, covering cost, timescale and disruption: how confident to be in each estimate, and where not to spend money.
  • Three outline business cases, showing which three deserve attention first, and why.
  • A 90-day action plan setting out what to do first.
  • Risks, dependencies and measures: what could go wrong, and how you'll know it's working.

I won't promise a specific saving. I'll show you the evidence, assumptions and confidence behind each recommendation, so you can decide with real information rather than a guess.

About CoveOps

Business operations expertise, not a tool looking for a problem.

CoveOps connects how work gets done, and the people, systems and data behind it, to measurable business outcomes, recommending automation or AI only where it earns its place. I start with the work, and I remain independent of any particular software.

The Review is run by Ben Chappell, whose background spans operational strategy, process improvement, systems and data across the Royal Marines, Big Four consulting and hands-on leadership inside busy SMEs.

If a recommendation needs specialist technical delivery, I bring in trusted partners and stay accountable for the outcome.

FAQ

Common questions

Do we need AI knowledge to take part?

No. I ask you to describe the work, the systems and the problems in plain language. Translating that into AI, automation or other options is my job, not yours.

Will everything you recommend use AI?

No. The sequence I follow is eliminate, simplify, use an existing system better, automate, then apply AI. AI is only recommended where it adds material value beyond a simpler option, and a non-AI recommendation is treated as a perfectly good outcome.

Will you implement the recommendations?

Implementation isn't part of the Review. If you want hands-on help afterwards, that's a separately scoped and priced engagement, agreed only once you've seen the findings.

Can you guarantee the savings you estimate?

No, and I'm wary of anyone who does. Every benefit estimate comes with a stated confidence level and visible assumptions, so you can judge it for yourself rather than take it on faith.

Can our existing software supplier do this instead?

A supplier will usually start from their own product. I start from your work and stay independent of any particular system, so the recommendation isn't shaped by what someone else is trying to sell you.

What information do we need to provide?

Business context, your priorities for the next 6 to 12 months, known bottlenecks, the systems and data involved, and access to a sponsor and up to five employees. I don't create missing documentation, and I only ask for what the review actually needs.

What happens on the eligibility call?

A 20-minute conversation to check the business, the problem, the sponsor, access and timing all line up. It isn't a free consulting session, and either of us can decide the Review isn't the right fit.
